Molnaripari

Since he arrived in Amherst, new football coach Charley Molnar has been drawing comparisons from hopeful UMass fans to legendary Minuteman basketball coach John Calipari. Molnar and Calipari met Thursday night as they sat together in Patriots' owner Robert Kraft's box at New England's preseason game against New Orleans."It was really exciting to meet Coach Cal. He's a legend around campus. Just to get to shake his hand... he's a national championship coach, the same thing I aspire to,"  Molnar said while being interviewed on television at halftime.
Molnar's has downplayed the comparisons.
"A lot of people say I remind them of Coach Cal," Molnar said. "I say this "I haven't won a single game in my life as a head coach. There's a long way to go before you can compare me to Coach Cal."
Other highlights from the interview with Steve Burton:
On playing at Gillette:
"Just walking into this place tonight I got goosebumps. It's really exciting not only for me but for our football team and our whole university."
On whether the team would draw in Foxborough. (I think he meant alumni living not living alumni)
We have 150,000 living alumni with in an hour of Gilette Stadium. We think we can get 40,000-50,000 a game.
On building a winner:
We're gonna turn things around. It's already started. We're changing the attitude. We're changing the culture. We're changing the foundation of the program. We're going to be big winners at UMass. It may take a little bit of time. But not very long.

On UMass' offense and defense:
We're going to run a spread offense. We're no huddle. We're going to be high scoring. We're going to make a lot of big plays. Sure we're going make some mistkaes, but that's part of the fun of it. We're going to keep fighting until the end of the game.

Defensively we're going to bring a lot of pressure. I've got a great defensive coordinator. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
